With a background in counseling and social justice, I have spent most of my career in education, specializing in creating safe spaces for Black women and other underserved populations. I received the 2022 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.
As a trained counselor, I enjoy establishing connections with others, and ensuring people feel valued and validated. My professional experiences in K-12 education, higher education, and the field of DEI allow me the intersection of insights to create impactful programming and meaningful change for my target audience. As a researcher, I enjoy staying up-to-date on current trends and best practices. As a counselor, I engage others authentically, encouraging them to show up as their authentic selves in the process. As an educator, I assess the best ways to share information, determining whether one-to-one or group sessions will be best.

I’m Dr. Erin Ford, and I’m passionate about helping people be seen, heard, and understood. This is especially true of fellow Black women and girls in educational and professional spaces. My personal experiences as a Black millennial woman who has never enjoyed being “The Only” encourage me to be the resource I needed, lifting as I climb by serving as a mentor and advocate. I emphasize the concept of using my space as a service, and offering as much as I can to help the Richmond community. In that vein, I can also be found delivering identity-based programming that fosters community, connection, and career development for Black women in Richmond.
